About Judge Kimberly DiGiovanni

Judge Kim DiGiovanni was appointed Circuit Court Judge by Democratic Illinois Supreme Court Justice Elizabeth Rochford – with the appointment being ratified by unanimous vote of the Illinois Supreme Court.  Prior to this appointment, Kim was rated as highly recommended by the Kane County Bar Association and served as an Associate Judge in Kane County. 

Presiding in multiple criminal and civil courtrooms, Judge DiGiovanni is an advocate for civility, professionalism, diversity, and inclusion. She has demonstrated her unwavering commitment to the Kane County Legal System as she has spent her entire legal career serving the needs of Kane County. 

Prior to her appointment as Associate Judge, Kim spent over 15 years tirelessly serving hundreds of families in crisis situations as a Family Law Attorney. With her extensive experience and compassion, she assisted parents and the court system to make informed decisions that best served the interests of children and families. In addition she broke ground in Kane by serving the two largest municipals in the county. DiGiovanni served as special council for the City of Elgin, City of Aurora, St. Charles and East Dundee, assisting police departments with training.

Judge DiGiovanni began her law career serving the public as a Kane County Law Clerk. She was responsible for conducting legal research on complex civil litigation matters and was integral in assisting former Chief Judge Phillip DiMarzio’s implementation of Drug Court in Kane County.  Also, as Clerk, Judge DiGiovanni assisted self-represented litigants to obtain Orders of Protection for themselves and their children.

DiGiovanni started her career serving the people of Kane County as an Assistant State’s Attorney in the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.  She prosecuted a variety of criminal cases, presenting matters to the Grand Jury and serving on the felony review team.  Throughout her time at the State’s Attorney’s Office, Judge DiGiovanni routinely worked with victims of crime.

Judge DiGiovanni contributes to the Kane County community in a variety of ways outside of the courtroom as well. She is a director of the Kane County Bar Foundation, prior co-chair of the Kane County Bar Association Local Government Committee, worked on committees with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Kane County – representing the legal interests of abused and neglected children – and the Boy Scout Merit Badge Program.  She assists with Mock Trial competitions, as well as numerous pro bono guardian ad litem appointments representing the interests of children. As a strong proponent of ongoing legal education, Judge DiGiovanni volunteers her time to provide training for Guardian Ad Litem Certification, new attorney cross county training and mental health issues. 

Judge DiGiovanni is a current member of the Illinois Judges Association, Kane County Democratic Women, Illinois Democratic Women, Illinois Bar Association and sustaining member of the Kane County Bar Association, She resides in the Tri-Cities area with her two children, her father, four dogs and partner. A longtime volunteer in our community, she will continue to be a Judge that makes us proud.
